After compiling survey responses from our families and teachers, W.O. Smith will be OPEN and classes will be held as scheduled during the week of MNPS intercession.   Thank you to all those who took part in the survey!

The Dustin J. Wells Foundation honors the memory of a very special young man.  After the loss of Dustin Jack Wells in a car accident in 2005, his family and friends searched for ways to keep his memory alive and allow his life to continue touching others.  A fund was set up and the dollars collected are used for the sole purpose of reaching out to others in Dustin’s honor.  Dustin J. Wells is the son of prominent Nashville cosmetic Dentist, Dr. Dennis Wells of the Nashville Center for Aesthetic Dentistry and W.O. Smith Music School Board member.

All proceeds from the event benefit the school and since the inaugural event in 2008, over $300,000 has been raised by The Dustin J. Wells Foundation for W.O. Smith School of Music.

Drums continue to be one of the most popular instruments for our students.  Our new lab will help students on waiting lists to get instruction more quickly.  Equipped with two student sets and a teacher set, the lab is an important addition to the school and will help students realize their dreams of drum lessons.

The Nashville Predators Foundation is devoted to funneling the excitement of professional sports towards the needs of the community. Since its establishment, the Nashville Predators Foundation has indeed made a significant impact on the Middle Tennessee community.

Through the support of the fans at various fundraising events held throughout the year, the Foundation is able to award several hundred thousands of dollars in grants to Nashville and Middle Tennessee area charities and community service organizations.  2012 saw the largest one time grant allocation in team history – $350,000 – and a total of over $3.0 million in grants during the 14 year history.

In addition,  the Predators select 4 charities out of the 100 to work with a little closer as a “Featured Charity” and W.O. Smith was selected as one for the 2012-13 season.  W.O. Smith Music School will be the Featured Charity at the game Tuesday, April 9th.  We will provide more information on how you can particiapte soon!

The annual fundraiser includes both live and silent auctions of wooden birdhouses designed and decorated by Nashville celebrities, renowned artists and professionals alongside other unique art works and gift packages to local businesses. Furniture craftsmen Bob McGill, tailor and society columnist Ted Clayton, Music Row executive turned artist Rob Hendon as well as artists Barbara Coon and Jacqueline Saporiti are among the illustrators of this year’s birdhouses. Guests will enjoy hors d’oeuvres from Nashville’s top caterers, specialty food shops and restaurants as well as fine wine and a selection of local rums.

Heather Hubbard and Becky Gardenhire are co-chairmen of the 2013 Birdhouse Thing.

Tickets are $50 each and may be purchased in advance at www.birdhousething.com or at the door.

Concerts tickets to the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tenn., Austin City Limits Music Festival in Austin, Texas and Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, Ill. along with CMA Music Fest passes, a private chef experience with local restaurateur Arnold Myint, a private cocktail party hosted by Suzy Wong’s House of Yum, packages to Hermitage Hotel and The Capital Grille and a Harpeth Hall Summer Camp Scholarship also are part of the auction.

The reception was held at Mr. Brooks’ farm in Goodlettesville, emceed by ESPN’s Steve Levy and Barry Melrose, and was attended by more than 200 professional athletes from around the country.  Following the reception, Mr. Brooks had a private ‘band meeting’ with Kristyn, Christian, Dana, Pearl and Kahlil, personal time with him that we are sure none of them will forget.

Teammates for Kids began in 1999 with the love and support of 67 Major League Baseball players who made a pledge to help kids. Since then, over 3,000 professional athletes from baseball, football, basketball, hockey, soccer, rodeo and racing have joined the team. The roster includes Hall of Fame members, as well as World Series, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup, MLS Cup, and NBA Finals champions. More information is available at: www.teammatesforkids.com.
