Student Expectations

I.  Behavior

Students are expected to treat each other, the staff, the faculty, and the building with courtesy and respect.  Any discourteous or disrespectful behavior will result in immediate dismissal from the school.  Students are expected to use their time wisely between lessons and rehearsals or while awaiting transportation home by quietly doing homework.

II.  Practicing

Students are expected to complete homework and to practice the recommended amount assigned by their teacher.  Students who repeatedly attend lessons unprepared will be placed on probation.

III.  Progress Reports and Performance Evaluations

Students taking private lessons will participate in Performance Evaluations and receive Progress Reports at the end of each semester.  Progress Reports will be mailed to parents and guardians after each semester.  A Progress Report grade of a “C” or lower will result in the student being placed on probation.

IV.  Instruments

Students are expected to arrive for lessons with instruments in good working order.  Failure to bring an instrument will result in an unexcused absence.  Students who do not have access to instruments may borrow their instrument of study from the school, if available.  Ultimately, students are responsible for the maintenance and care of instruments.  There is no additional expense for instrumental loan. All instruments must be returned to the school upon completion of the spring semester.

V.  Music and Materials

Students are expected to arrive for lessons with all necessary music and materials.  Students who do not have access to music books may borrow their music from the school.  Ultimately, students are responsible for returning all loaned materials in the condition in which they were received upon completion of the spring semester.

VI. Checkpoint Forms

If a student fails to follow through on one or more of the above expectations (no practicing, no music, et cetera) simply fill out a Checkpoint form at the front desk, and the staff can assist you in creating a positive change for the student.
