The Somerlot Memorial Fund

In Memory of Allen Somerlot

Allen Somerlot loved music, people, and food. He was a runner, a cyclist, a maker of sounds. He was deeply spiritual and grounded in faith. He was kind, gentle, sometimes angry, and always, always funny.

He loved his people without reservation and unconditionally. He was the worst back seat driver and front seat driver for that matter. He never fully understood how tall he was and was surprised every time he hit his head on something. He was a deep thinker about life; he was willing to consider other points of view and change his mind. He had mental clarity and a strong sense of responsibility to himself and others.

He was creative. His purpose in life was to create. He loved making music; he called it “sounds,” and he spent untold hours in the studio doing a million little things to make one perfect sound. Creating was the constant in life, come storm or valley, he was in the studio, headphones on, tapping his foot and bobbing his head. He also loved photography, and it was his “on the fly” creative experience.

He was a husband, a father, a son, an uncle, a brother, and a friend. He was the kind of man who poured into his people and was fiercely loyal and fiercely protective when he needed to be. He was steady as a rock for our little family, and we will not be the same without him, but we are better for knowing him. And in this, we will rest.

Allen, May angels sing thee to thy rest.

Donations made in Allen’s memory will go towards supporting low-income children in the Middle Tennessee area to receive quality music education.
