What is W.O. Smith Music School?

Since 1984, W.O. Smith Community Music School has provided thousands of affordable lessons & classes to Nashville's low-income youth. For only $.50 a lesson, our school allows families to enroll their children, ages 8-18, in quality music instruction that they'd otherwise be unable to afford. This is only made possible through our skilled, musical volunteers, like you! Help us transform lives through music.

Who can volunteer?

Preferably those…

  • Who can commit to a steady, weekly schedule and live in the Greater Nashville area (no online lessons available)

  • With experience in private music lessons (either having taught them or participated in them yourself)

  • With musical expertise (formal or informal) on your primary instrument

  • Encouraged, but NOT required: music education background, music theory knowledge, note reading knowledge, performance or band leading experience, etc…

What is the commitment?

- A consistent, 1 hour a week, one semester at a time

- Musical knowledge (no teaching experience necessary!)

- A positive attitude!
