Ensemble Camp Info
Ages: 8-18, no experience required
Dates: Monday, July 6th - Thursday, July 10th, 9am-4pm (lunch included)
Final Performance - required performance on Thursday evening at Cheekwood Estate & Garden.
Requirements to attend:
Campers are required to attend the entire week and be in good standing in their private lessons and classes. Good standing at the school will be heavily determined by attendance, behavior, and teacher evaluations in lieu of performance evaluations. No experience is necessary to join this camp.
Description: This new ensemble camp will be geared toward students re-registering for the 2025-26 school year, but graduating seniors are welcome too! Students will dive deep into two W.O. Smith ensembles: our choirs and steel drum ensemble. Students will be split into groups with one half of their day focused on choir music and the other half on playing the steel drums. They will also have the opportunity to work with guest artists. We plan to have a run-out performance in the Nashville community at some point throughout the week and a final performance for family and friends.
What on earth is a steel drum?? Do I have to have experience playing it?
No experience is needed at all for this camp! Steel drums are percussion instruments that come from Trinidad. There are several different notes to each, but you’ll only have to play 1-3 at a time. If you’ve ever heard a song with a Caribbean style, think Harry Belafonte, you’ve probably heard one before. Here are a couple of examples from our Steel Drum Ensemble at WO Smith:

Descripcion: Este nuevo campamento conjunto estará dirigido a estudiantes que se reinscriban para el año escolar 2025-26, pero los estudiantes del último año que se gradúan también son bienvenidos. Los estudiantes profundizarán en dos conjuntos de W.O. Smith: nuestros coros y conjunto de tambores de acero. Los estudiantes se dividirán en grupos y la mitad del día se centrará en la música del coro y la otra mitad en tocar los tambores de acero. También tendrán la oportunidad de trabajar con artistas invitados. Planeamos tener una presentación final en la comunidad de Nashville en algún momento durante la semana y una presentación final para familiares y amigos.
